Two Birmingham writers and library-lovers, Liz Berry and Catherine O'Flynn, have assembled a team of 35 brilliant Birmingham writers to make a protest zine, championing Brum's community libraries against the proposed cuts.
Inspired by the idea that every Birmingham library is precious and worth fighting for, the library zine team has paired a writer with each of Brum's community libraries. Throughout June, the writers will head out to their libraries on micro-residencies where they'll explore, read, chat, dream, write and then create a short piece inspired by their visit.
All 35 pieces will be gathered into a final printed zine. The zines will be made in a beautifully old school DIY style and freely available at every library for users to take away and keep.
Writers involved in the project range from Birmingham legends to up-and-coming new talent and include Jonathan Coe, Kit de Waal, Casey Bailey, Ruth Millington, Mark Billingham, Steven Camden, Mike Gayle, and Stuart Maconie.
